We did it! *

After two years of dedication and community effort, we have finally secured approval for traffic-calming measures on Terry Mill Road! This is a historic win for our neighborhood, as previous attempts have never made it this far. Thank you to everyone who signed, supported, and stayed persistent—we did it!

FAQs

Where can I learn more about the process and see the design?

You can learn more about the process, how long it’s taken, and when we reached certain steps of the process here.

What’s next?

Next is a Board of Commissioners meeting on May 13th. Nicole will meet with the Commissioners and get the final OK on installation. Then, a work order will be forwarded to Roads and Drainage, and our street will be marked up as needed.

Why wasn’t I involved in the design process?

We made every effort to ensure all residents had the opportunity to review and provide input on the traffic-calming design. Flyers were mailed to every home, and we also went door to door to discuss the plans. Unfortunately, we did not receive responses from many residents during the feedback period.

The final design was based on input from those who engaged in the process, as well as recommendations from traffic engineers. While changes can’t be made at this stage, we encourage continued community involvement in future improvements. If you have any concerns, we’re happy to discuss them!

How long will it take to see speed tables on Terry Mill?

According to the county, it could take 3-6 months to complete (maybe even more). Assuming everything goes smoothly, they should be installed by late Fall 2025.

What if I didn’t sign the petition?

Even if you didn’t sign, the majority of property owners on the street supported the initiative. The process followed county guidelines, and the measures were approved based on the required number of signatures.

How were the locations of the speed tables determined?

The county’s traffic engineers analyzed traffic patterns and safety concerns to determine the best locations for the calming measures. Their placement is based on factors like vehicle speed, road grade, and proximity to intersections. Speed tables also cannot be placed within 5 feet of a driveway (on either side of the road).

Can I contest or remove a speed bump near my house?

Once installed, speed bumps are typically permanent. Any removal or modification would require a separate petition and county approval process, similar to this one. This is why we had a design review process and gave residents the opportunity to provide input—but unfortunately, very few people responded or engaged.
